Soldiers and police are accused of firing live ammunition as the faithful were coming out of Mass at St Dominic’s Church, Limete on 31.12.2017. Father Jean Nkongolo was shot in the face by a rubber bullet and injured when he asked them to stop shooting the parishioners.
On 31 December 2017 a march organised to protest against the continuing leadership of Joseph Kabila as president of the country turned into a riot. The result was a dozen or so deaths and 120 arrests. The DR Congo has in fact been going through a major crisis ever since December 2016.
