Trip 2021 of Ulrich, Paulo and Josué to Mozambique

Mozambique – Diocese of Pemba – Mieze (District of Metuge) – 16.11.2021:

From one of the houses burned, in the attack a year ago in the district of Muidumbe, the Christians have made a cross that represents the suffering of that community: «The cross was made with the burned wood of the house of a Christian and the Christ is broken into pieces because we want to remember the situation of so many people, so many men, women and children who have been dismembered, «explains Father Edegard Silva to ACN. «That is why – adds the Brazilian missionary – the body, legs, arms and head of Christ are separated, because they express the reality of so many people here in this war in Cabo Delgado.»
The cross, made of wood burned with the Christ in pieces, is the central element of the prayer of the Stations of the Cross, which takes place in a small space built with woven wooden stakes and covered with straw, like all the houses in the villages of this region. At the entrance, on a small sign you can read that this is «the face of Jesus in Cabo Delgado.»
Fr. Edegard Silva Junior, MS (Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette/ Saltetine Missionary), was the parish priest of Muidumbe but had to flee before the attacks of the insurgents.
