Purchase of a boat for the pastoral services at the Christ King parish in Itacoatiara
Information by Ulrich from the last trip in 2019:
The Indian parish priest Fr. Leo Jayaraj Arulappan, MMI (Missionários de Maria Imaculada), attends, together with the Indian priest Pe. Simeão, MMI, 45 communities, of which only 3 are in the city of Itacoatiara while the others are distributed along the Amazonas River (Ilha do Risco) and the Arari River. These communities can be reached by motorboat from Itacoatiara in between 45 minutes and 10 hours (community of Nova Olinda).
So far, the parish has only one motorboat with a 70 hp engine and capacity for 7 people, which had been bought used and has become very prone to repair. A collision with a tree trunk, as is usually the case when the water level rises on the river, would be fatal because the boat was composed of two smaller boats and could easily break apart.
For that reason, with our help, a 7 m long and 2.40 m wide aluminum boat with a Yamaha 90 HP 4T engine and with space for 8 people shall be bought for the parish.
